The Little Book
Developed by Suicide Anonymous in America, this book proposes the idea that suicide is an addiction. Although it is a controversial topic, the book explains the reasons why it labels suicide an addiction. The book also explains the Twelve Steps of recovery which have been fashioned on the highly successful approach used by AA (Alcoholics Anonymous).
A Journey Toward Health and Hope
Developed by the American Association of Suicidology, this book is a guide to help you take the first steps toward recovery after your suicide attempt. The book includes tools and stories derived from the lived experiences of people who have survived a suicide attempt. The aim of the book is to provide readers with ideas and resources to keep safe, develop hope and to remind them that they are not alone.
After a Suicide Attempt: A Guide for Family and Friends
Developed by the Waterloo Regional Suicide Prevention Council in Canada, this book provides useful information for people who have attempted suicide, plus their family and friends. Although it is Canadian based, most of the content is universally applicable.
The Canadian emergency/hospital service mentioned in the book is somewhat different to Australia. Nevertheless, the Discharge Plan included in the booklet, plus the list of questions you should ask at discharge, provide a useful checklist for you to use in Australia.
